Swap places with consequences? Daniil Medvedev and Dominic Thiem

Dominic Thiem has dropped out of the top four in the ATP world rankings. After the Austrian won only one of his three matches at the ATP Cup in Brisbane, Thiem Daniil Medvedev had to let pass in the current charts. Mevedev, now new fourth, won four games in the Russian team and also had a chance against Novak Djokovic for another success.

The Serb in turn completed the team competition, which was held for the first time, with a flawless record of six individual wins. Djokovic moved a little closer to Rafael Nadal , whom he defeated in two sets in the final in Sydney. Roger Federer follows in third, Alexander Zverev in seventh.

After qualifying for the Australian Open begins this week, the ranking will also be used for placement this Monday. After Lucas Pouille and Kei Nishikori will not start in Melbourne, Hubert Hurkacz from Poland completes the series of seeded players.

Kohlschreiber helps Novak

Philipp Kohlschreiber has made up four places with his success at the Challenger in Bendigo, the long-standing German number one is now at position 75. Kohlschreiber's final victory over Emil Ruusuvuori also meant that Dennis Novak was able to come up with a two-digit ranking for the first time. The Austrian number two, who won the ATP Cup against Guido Pella, is 99th.
