Daniil Medvedev is now again ahead of Rafael Nadal in the world rankings

Despite his last 16 defeat in Madrid, Daniil Medvedev can definitely be considered one of the winners of the event in the Spanish capital. Because of Rafael Nadal's surprising bankruptcy in the quarter-finals, the Russian overtook the 20-time Grand Slam winner, is now 150 points ahead of him in second place and will also be the first nominal challenger to world number one Novak Djokovic at the French Open .

Otherwise there was only one change in the top 10 of the men's charts: Madrid finalist Matteo Berrettini moved up to ninth place ahead of Diego Schwartzman, semifinalist Casper Ruud also benefited from his good performance and can look forward to a new career high with rank 16 . Alexander Bublik (39th), Dominik Koepfer (50th), Alexei Popyrin (61st) and Lorenzo Musetti (82nd) also recorded new records in the top 100.

Zverev and Thiem are making up ground in the race

By contrast, the US men are currently far from all-time highs. For the first time since the introduction of the ATP ranking in 1973, no player in the United States is in the top 30 of the world rankings. The best-placed player is Taylor Fritz in 31st place, closely followed by John Isner (34th).

The Race to Turin is still led by Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev. In third and fourth place are Djokovic and Medvedev, only behind that there was a change compared to the previous week: Madrid winner Alexander Zverev overtook Aslan Karatsev, Hubert Hurkacz and Jannik Sinner and is now in fifth place. The world ranking fourth Dominic Thiem made up 34 places in the battle for the end-of-year finals of the eight best players thanks to his semi-finals in the Spanish capital and is currently 22nd
