Dominic Thiem only dropped out in Gijon in the semifinals

Dominic Thiem is gradually approaching the top 100: By reaching the semifinals at the ATP 250 tournament in Gijon, the 29-year-old improved 33 places in the world rankings to position 132. The US Open winner of 2020 is only there more four places behind the Austrian number one Jurij Rodionov.

However, not much happened at the top of the ranking. Carlos Alcaraz is still in the lead ahead of Rafael Nadal, Casper Ruud and Daniil Medvedev. The currently injured Alexander Zverev takes sixth place behind Stefanos Tsitsipas, with Novak Djokovic, Andrey Rublev, Taylor Fritz and Felix Auger-Aliassime completing the top ten.

Auger-Aliassime, who improved by three places compared to the previous week, also has a good chance of participating in the ATP Finals after winning the tournament in Florence . The Canadian overtook Taylor Fritz and is now seventh in the race. With Alcaraz, Nadal, Ruud, Tsitsipas and Djokovic, five players already have their tickets for the year-end final in Turin in their pockets. The remaining three places will probably be played out by Medvedev, Rublev, Auger-Aliassime, Fritz and Hubert Hurkacz.
