Seventh Wimbledon victory and still only number seven in the world - Novak Djokovic experiences a curiosity in tennis. The Serbian star fell four places from third place in the world rankings published on Monday. The reason: No points were awarded at the legendary British lawn tournament this time.

The All England Club had decided to expel all players from Russia and Belarus over the war of aggression against Ukraine. The professional associations ATP and WTA then withdrew the status of world ranking relevance from the classic. Djokovic thus lost 2000 points for his previous year's win without collecting new points.

Number one in the world is still a Russian: Daniil Medvedev. Alexander Zverev (Hamburg), who suffered serious ligament injuries in the semifinals of the French Open, remains second ahead of record Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal (Spain).

Federer with protected ranking

After twelve months without a game, the Swiss Roger Federer does not appear in the world rankings for the first time in 25 years. Due to his status as an injured player, the 20-time Grand Slam winner can fall back on a protected ranking for his first nine tournament appearances.

Austrian number one Jurij Rodionov is 151st in the world rankings, two positions ahead of Dennis Novak. Dominic Thiem is currently only 339th in the ranking.
