Gone are the days when Alexander Zverev left an unnecessarily large amount of energy in the first rounds of a Grand Slam tournament. Which he then missed in the later rounds against the really big names. Zverev also won his third match at the Australian Open, beating Adrian Mannarino against each other in the sixth overall, this time 6: 3, 6: 3 and 6: 1. As in 2020, Zverev made it to the round of 16, where he will meet either Dusan Lajovic or Pedro Martinez.

The French had the first break chances in the match, but Zverev fended them off in the fifth game. And immediately afterwards took the lead 4-2. The German, who was sixth, dominated at will - not only with his serve, but also the longer rallies. The second set went to the favorite just as quickly.

Which even picked up the pace in the third round. Also because Mannarino had come to terms with the defeat. With his fourth against Zverev within a few months, by the way: In autumn 2020 the two faced each other at the US Open in Cologne and Paris-Bercy, always with the better end for Zverev. So in Melbourne. After a playing time of only 1:40 hours, Zverev closed the sack with an ace.

Zverev will play the round of 16 on Sunday against either Lajovic or Martinez in an empty stadium. The regional government of Victoria imposed at least a five-day lockdown for Melbourne from Saturday to prevent the spread of the corona virus.
