Three sets against Daniel Altmaier, three sets against John Millman. The times when Alexander Zverev left unnecessarily much power in the early rounds of Grand Slam tournaments are over for now. This is also remarkable in that some of the potential upcoming opponents have had to work quite hard. Denis Shapovalov, for example, whom Zverev could meet in the round of 16: The Canadian had to use all his skills to beat South Korean Soon Woo Kwon in five sets.

Alexander Zverev, on the other hand, delivered the next solid performance against local hero Millman, winning 6: 4, 6: 4 and 6: 0 after a playing time of 1:59 hours. It was the third win in the third comparison with the Australian, the two last met in Cologne in autumn 2020.

Zverev now against Albot

Zverev was never in danger - even if he occasionally got himself into uncomfortable situations with double faults. In the second round alone, he gave Millman five points in this way. But then fended off the resulting breakballs with strong serves.

After winning the second round, Zverev got his opponent's serve again at the beginning of the third set. And didn't even let thoughts of a possible comeback by John Millman arise. Especially not after the new break to 3-0, which Zverev secured with a backhand along the line.

The next task for the German number one should also be feasible with manageable effort: Zverev plays against Radu Albot. The man from Moldova was able to hold his own against Aleksander Vukic in three sets on Wednesday. Zverev won the only encounter so far in 2019 in the first round of the US Open. After five sets.
