The Australian Open will take place on February 8-21

For weeks it was puzzled as to what the tournament calendar for tennis professionals at the beginning of 2021 could look like , at least on the men's side, this secret has now been revealed. The ATP published the game plan for the first seven weeks of the coming season on Thursday night (CET) .

The starting shot for the coming season will be given in Delray Beach and Antalya. In both the USA and Turkey, two ATP 250 tournaments will take place on hard court from January 5th to 13th. In addition, the qualification for the Australian Open will take place in Doha from January 10th to 13th.

After that, almost the entire tennis team will fly to Melbourne in order to be put into a two-week quarantine there from January 15 to 31. No tournaments will take place during this time, but training units may be completed under strict rules - after all , the Australian Open will be the first big highlight of the year for the players.

Decision pending on Indian Wells and Miami

Before the Grand Slam tournament, two ATP 250 events will be held in Melbourne from January 31 to February 6. At the same time, the ATP Cup will take place - also in Melbourne. From February 1st to 5th, twelve teams will agree on the title among themselves. The ATP did not announce on which facilities the tournaments will be held.

It is already certain, however, that the Australian Open will take place as usual in Melbourne Park. From February 8 to 21, the best players in the world will fight for the tournament victory - and that in front of an as yet undetermined number of spectators.

After the announcement of the ATP it is also clear that the tournaments in Auckland, New York, Pune and Rio de Janeiro will (initially) fall victim to the new calendar. However, it is possible that these events will be rescheduled for a later date. The men's organization will announce separately how things will continue from calendar week eight to 13 - and thus also with the two ATP Masters 1000 events in Indian Wells and Miami. From the European clay court season onwards, the tournaments should take place again as planned.

The tournaments at a glance:

5th to 13th January: Delray Beach - ATP 250 / hard court
5th to 13th January: Antalya - ATP 250 / hard court
January 10-13: Doha - Australian Open qualification / hard court
January 31 to February 6: Melbourne 1 - ATP 250 / hard court
January 31 to February 6: Melbourne 2 - ATP 250 / hard court
1st to 5th February: ATP Cup (Melbourne) - hard court
February 8-21: Australian Open - Grand Slam / hard court
