The American was again strong in serving, 11 aces were there, a total of 27 winners. And, importantly for Keys: her unforced errors kept her in the green with 21 pieces. Krejcikova, on the other hand, only managed 12 winning strokes with 28 mistakes without need.

After break chances on both sides, it was Keys who broke her opponent's service game for the first time, to make it 4:2; in the second round she quickly went ahead with a double break and 3:0. Even if the Czech countered once, there was nothing more to be done in the end.

Keys now against Barty or Pegula

Keys awaits the winner of the match between top seed Ashleigh Barty and Jessica Pegula in the semifinals. With a win, she would move into her second major final after 2017 - at that time she lost to Sloane Stephens at the US Open.

Keys, formerly number 7 in the world, had recently slipped in the WTA ranking after poor performance, but had a promising start to the new season with a tournament win in Adelaide.
