Serena Williams made it clear for me to move into the third round of the Australian Open 2021 with a convincing performance. Comeback Bianca Andreescu, however, has left.

Williams won against Nina Stojanovic 6: 3, 6: 0. The Serbian (WTA No. 99) kept up well in the first round, in set two the resistance was broken with the break to 3-0 - afterwards Stojanovic only managed one point. Williams made it into round 3 with her sixth ace, her 27th winner of the match.

"She challenged me a lot, played well throughout the match. I had to fight hard," said the tenth in the world rankings afterwards. Williams now meets Anastasia Potapova.

Off for Bianca Andreescu

Bianca Andreescu is out. The US Open winner from 2019, who had not played a single match in 2020 due to injury, was defeated by the tricky Su-Wei Hsieh 3: 6, 2: 6. Hsieh expanded her series of "Big Upsets" - in 2018 she had already defeated the then number 3 in the world, Garbine Muguruza, at the Australian Open. And in Wimbledon, the world number one Simona Halep.
