The 72nd in the world rankings had little trouble with the long-injured Coco Vandeweghe (USA) at 6: 1, 6: 4, but now meets the world rankings second Karolina Pliskova (Czech Republic).

Qualifier Antonia Lottner (Düsseldorf), on the other hand, failed in 3-6, 3-6 against Camila Giorgi (Italy) in her fourth Grand Slam participation in round one. Tatjana Maria (Bad Saulgau) had no chance in the 0: 6, 2: 6 against Catherine Bellis (USA).

For Siegemund it was the first victory compared to Vandeweghe. She had lost all five previous games, three of them at tour level.
