French Open winner Andreas Mies will probably miss the Olympic Games in Tokyo (July 23 to August 8) due to a knee injury. "Andi had an operation yesterday and is out for six months," said his doubles partner Kevin Krawietz on the sidelines of the Australian Open on Friday: "It will be tight for the Olympic Games. Sure, that is extremely bitter."

Mies, who won the French Open in Paris alongside Krawietz in 2019 and 2020, had to cancel his participation in the Australian Open shortly before the start of the tournament due to persistent knee problems. Krawietz therefore competed in Melbourne together with Yannick Hanfmann, the duo from Coburg and Karlsruhe lost their second round game against the four-time Grand Slam champions Pierre-Hugues Herbert / Nicolas Mahut (France) 5-7, 3-6 on Friday.

Krawietz said that in the coming months he will probably play a few tournaments alongside Jan-Lennard Struff (Warstein). Further appearances with Hanfmann are hardly possible due to his poor double placement.
