The French Open was originally planned from May 24th to June 7th. France is severely affected by the corona pandemic, as of Tuesday afternoon 148 people had already contracted COVID-19 there. This creates the unique situation that a second Grand Slam tournament will take place just a week after the end of the US Open. The Laver Cup, which should have been held in Boston from September 20 to 27, will fall victim to the new plan.

In addition, in the new French Open window for men, the tournaments in Metz, St. Petersburg, Chengdu, Sofia and Zhuhai are still on the ATP tennis calendar.

"We made a difficult yet brave decision in this unprecedented situation," said Bernard Giudicelli, president of the organizing French Tennis Federation. "We act responsibly and must now work together to fight for everyone's health and safety."
