"He hasn't improved as a player in the past 18 months," said Becker at Eurosport, adding: "For me, the game is a bit too one-dimensional, too readable for the opponent."
Zverev clearly missed the quarter-finals in New York after the 6: 3, 2: 6, 4: 6, 3: 6 against Argentinian Diego Schwartzman. "He is motivated, hardworking, has a good environment, but his network attacks and his position on the pitch are the same as they were 18 months ago," Becker said.

As in previous games, Zverev had serious problems with the second serve against Schwartzman, serving 17 double errors against Schwartzman. "17 double mistakes speak volumes," said three-time Wimbledon winner Becker and said: "The second serve is a look into the soul of a tennis player."
Zverev, however, drew a conciliatory conclusion after his departure. "I won difficult matches, I played better, my tennis improved. That is the positive thing that I take with me," he said. After the separation from coach Ivan Lendl in the run-up to the tournament, Zverev will continue to be looked after by his father Alexander senior. "Nothing will change about my team," said the ATP champion.
