Despite all the love for tennis, there is only one sport at the University of Florida that really moves the masses. And that is football. But why not bring these two disciplines together? Maybe those responsible at the university thought so too. And Ben Shelton, who made a somewhat sensational appearance in the semifinals of the US Open a few days ago, was invited to the Gators' most recent game.
An ovation from 90,000 fans is something you don't get very often. And Shelton, who honed his tennis skills at this college (also under the tutelage of his father Bryan) before moving on to the professional tour, clearly enjoyed the attention.
But that wasn't the end of Shelton's weekend, who will be making his debut at the Laver Cup in Vancouver in a few days. On Sunday he was also allowed to serve first for the girls' volleyball team.
