The Frenchman Benoit Paire tested negative a few days after his positive corona finding, which had cost him participation in the US Open. The number 23 in the world rankings announced on Wednesday in a live video on Instagram.

"To tell the truth, I tested negative," said the 31-year-old, who is in quarantine. This was already on Monday. "I will continue to take tests. I feel very good and have no symptoms," he said. In addition, the Frenchman stated that he would be allowed to return to Europe on Tuesday. Paire intends to play the ATP Masters 1000 event in Rome and then the French Open in Paris.

On Saturday Paire had already tested positive in the US Open bubble in New York and was then excluded from the tournament. He called the high security zone around Flushing Meadows a "fake bubble" and attacked the organizers. In addition to superstar Novak Djokovic, the criticism was also joined by the German professional Alexander Zverev, who felt he was insufficiently informed.

Heavy criticism from Pella

Sharp criticism also came from Guido Pella, who himself had to go through a quarantine during the two tournaments in New York City. The Argentine criticized the unequal treatment by the organizers, as Pella and the Bolivian Hugo Dellien had to be directly quarantined after their fitness coach tested positive for the corona virus. The two South Americans did not receive a similar treatment as for Pairs circle of contact persons.

So far, however, these are the only two COVID-19 cases in the direct vicinity of the two tournaments in the USA. Kei Nishikori, who was also infected with the virus, had not yet traveled to New York City when he tested positive. This has ensured that the two events have largely run smoothly so far, the Western & Southern Open have already come to an end, the US Open should end on September 13th.
