Kei Nishikori tested positive for COVID-19

There is the next COVID-19 case in professional tennis: Kei Nishikori announced on Sunday that he had tested positive for COVID-19. A start at the US Open is therefore extremely questionable.

Girgor Dimitrov, Novak Djokovic, Francis Tiafoe and now also Kei Nishikori. There is now a whole squad of top players who have tested positive for the corona virus. The Japanese represents the youngest case in this list, it was only on Sunday that the world number 31. known to have had a positive test result. "This morning while I was still in Florida, I tested positive for COVID-19," the Japanese wrote on social media.

He and his team will be tested again next Friday, but for the Western & Southern Open, which should start next Saturday, this means Nishikori's cancellation. Fortunately, the 30-year-old currently reports only very mild symptoms and claims that he feels quite good. "Of course, I will still go into complete isolation for everyone's safety," said Nishikori.

US Open more than questionable

Actually, Nishikori should have left for New York City on Monday morning, but this project has now been suspended. On Friday, the Japanese wants to turn to his fans again. Nishikori is the first positive case in the context of the upcoming two events in New York City. How and whether it will be possible to compete at the US Open is currently unclear. The second Grand Slam of the year is scheduled to start on August 31.
