Bianca Andreescu hasn't played a WTA match since Miami

Bianca Andreescu is one of the big surprises of the 2019 tennis year. Alone: The tennis fans haven't seen the winner of the WTA Premier Mandatory event in Indian Wells for weeks. Strictly speaking, since the tournament in Miami, where Andreescu had to give up against Anett Kontaveit within a few days after the second success against Angelique Kerber.

Also this week the name of the 18-year-old Canadian is missing in the tableaus of Nuremberg and Strasbourg, Andreescu will make her clay court debut in the current season in Roland Garros. As a player, she is currently listed at position 22 in the WTA charts.

Andreescu is working on her fitness

Andreescu should not be underestimated - after all, she chose an exquisite location for her preparation: the Rafa Nadal Academy in Manacor. Andreescu arranged for her tennis to get better every day. She is working on her fitness, the most important building block for playing on sand. How much Andreescu will benefit from this remains to be seen: after Roland Garros, the tennis caravan finally moves onto the grass pitches, in summer the North American players tend to have more fun on the hard courts.

There are also some of them in Rafael Nadal's academy. And not only that. "The people are very nice here and the food is great," Andreescu concluded. And immediately expanded their enthusiasm across the country. After visiting Madrid and Barcelona, she was certain: "Spain is my favorite country."
