Billie Jean King Cup - Playoffs: Ukraine, Italy, Canada win

Actually, the final event of the newly named Billie Jean King Cup (formerly Fed Cup) should have taken place this week, but due to the corona pandemic, these have been postponed to an indefinite period later in the year .

The playoffs took place: Poland won 3: 2 against Brazil, Great Britain celebrated a 3: 1 against Mexico, Canada won 4: 0 in Serbia (youngster Leylah Fernandez contributed two points), Latvia (with Jelena Ostapenko and Anastasija Sevastova) beat India 3-1.

In addition, Ukraine ( with the newly engaged Elina Svitolina ) won against Japan with 4: 0, Italy won in Romania (without Simona Halep) with 3: 1, XXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXX and the Netherlands won against China with 3: 2.

The eight victorious nations will thus be in the qualifying round for the Billie Jean King Cup in 2022.

In the 2021 finals, Germany will be among others, in Group D with the Czech Republic and Switzerland.

The other groups are France, Russia, Hungary (group A), Australia, Belarus, Belgium (group B) and the USA, Spain, Slovakia (group C).
