Boris Becker has made himself a bit rare in public after the French Open, which he had accompanied as an expert on Eurosport. Probably also to prepare his podcast series "The fifth sentence" with Johannes B. Kerner. In the first episode, the three-time Wimbledon champion provides, among other things, a settlement with the media, especially the German-speaking ones. Since his first success in London he has been a permanent focus of the public. "I thought it would stop at some point. I'm surprised that I'm still so interesting at 53 years old. But stories can be sold with my name."

In the past few weeks, Becker had also been in the headlines due to his bankruptcy proceedings. "I accept that everyone has an opinion about me. But it is strange that strangers judge me or judge me. That is why the responsibility of the German media is so important. And I am not always treated fairly and correctly with regard to content . " Especially with the BILD newspaper, Becker does not find good agreement these days.

It's about character assassination, about damaging his name. "At some point I will become a non-public person. I just don't know when. But certainly not for 25 years. At some point I'll pull the plug."

Special relationship with Steffi Graf

Nevertheless, Boris Becker, who has lived in London for years, still has a very strong connection to Germany. "My mother lives here, my children live here. I have nothing against Germany. And if I've done something right in my life, it's my four children."

A move to relative anonymity, for example to Las Vegas, as Steffi Graf carried out years ago, is out of the question for Becker. "She's still the best tennis player of all time. But she was protected by her father for tax evasion. He's been in prison for three and a half years. She has turned her back on Germany. You could also say she fled. From in her view she did everything right. "

Becker met Steffi Graf as a teenager. "I was already emotional earlier. If a racket flew, I had to play with the girls as a punishment after training. And the best girl was Steffi Graf."
