Similar to Stan Wawrinka, Borna Coric was particularly conspicuous at the start of the European clay court season with one thing: his absence. Since his semi-finals at the ATP 500 event in Rotterdam, it has become quiet about the world number 30. Now at least the reason for the Croatia's absence has been clarified: As Coric announced on Wednesday, the 24-year-old has undergone shoulder surgery.

"I am currently in New York because I had an operation on my right shoulder yesterday," Corics said in a statement on Instagram. The world number 30. have struggled with shoulder pain for some time, despite trying a wide range of treatment techniques.

Coric is looking for a "permanent solution"

It quickly became clear to the up-and-coming Croatian: "A permanent solution is needed: After my team and I talked to leading doctors, we decided that an operation was the best option," says Coric. Now there is at least the first positive news: According to the 24-year-old, the operation went "extremely well". "Now I have to work on my return," said the Croat.

Borna Coric is currently ranked 30th in the world, but in 2018 she knocked on the top 10 in the tennis world. At that time, the Croat played himself in 12th place. In his still young career, Coric was also able to win two ATP titles, most recently in 2018 at the lawn classic in Halle.
