Just over a year ago, the Dane announced that she was suffering from autoimmune disease . A project in this regard is about to start, she revealed.

However, her resignation has nothing to do with her health and is not a farewell. "I wholeheartedly thank all my fans, friends, sponsors, my team, especially my father as coach, my husband and my family for their support, and without you all, I would never have made it."

Long-awaited Grand Slam title in 2018

"I've achieved everything that I could have dreamed of," said Wozniacki - and that's a lot. The 29-year-old looks back on a very successful career. For 71 weeks, she was ranked # 1 in the world rankings, winning 30 individual tournaments, including the WTA Finals in 2017 and the Australian Open in 2018, her long-cherished dream: a Grand Slam tournament. Previously, she was twice defeated at the US Open in the final (2009, 2014).

After the victory in Melbourne Wozniacki also climbed again for four weeks, the number 1 in the WTA ranking. For the first time she stood on 11 October 2010 at the top.

In 2016, she slipped to seventeenth place after injuries but then made a miraculous comeback, culminating in the victory in Melbourne in a dramatic final against Simona Halep in 2018.
