"It feels really good because I'm taking a lot of confidence into the next tournaments," said Schwartzman after the final victory. "It was very important for me to win these big matches here."

Schwartzman had a free ticket as number three on the seed list before he eliminated Ernests Gulbis in two sets. In the quarterfinals, he served Mikhail Kukushkin in less than an hour. In the semi-finals he had to do three sets, but defeated his compatriot Guido Pella 6: 3, 3: 6, 6: 1. On Saturday he went 2-1 against Fritz in head-to-head.

For the 26-year-old, it was the first title to be won on hard court. He can look forward to 250 points for the ranking and $ 131,430. In the ATP live ranking he moved up to 23rd place, final opponent Fritz achieved a new career ranking with 25th place.

It was also the American who dominated in the early stages of the final. Thanks to an unintentional mistake by Schwartzman, he took a break to 3-1 before the Argentine struck back to 3-4. At 5: 6, Schwartzman was 0:40 on his own serve, but was able to fend off all three of his opponent's set balls with strong serves and forehand strikes.

In the following tie-break, Fritz made two double mistakes, which Schwartzman used to win the set. At the start of the second set, Schwartzman got a penalty from Fritz and pulled away with a break. He gave it back for a short time, only to take off Fritz again, who only had one break before the finale. After an hour and 40 minutes, Schwartzman turned his second match point and sank to the ground in delight.
