"Tennis Australia is doing everything it can to finalize the tennis summer as soon as possible," said Craig in a statement: "We are working closely with the authorities on a plan that includes all the needs of the players, the fans, our partners and employees . "

Australia's strict corona policy had recently raised doubts about hosting the Grand Slam tournament in Melbourne in January. A 14-day quarantine is mandatory upon entry. In a letter, the player organization ATP had recently informed the tennis professionals that it was currently not certain that the players would be allowed to enter in December as planned. Preparatory tournaments such as the ATP Cup (January 1 to 10) or Adelaide International (January 10 to 16) would not be possible.

Several Australian newspapers had recently speculated about a postponement of the event. Grand Slam record winner Rafael Nadal advised everyone involved to keep calm. "We just have to be patient and accept the situation. It's difficult for everyone," said Nadal on the sidelines of the ATP Finals in London.
