Medvedev played the rallies in a manner typical of him from far behind the baseline. Giron often tried to cause problems for his opponent through Winkel, but had to admit defeat after breaks to 2: 3 (1st set) and 1: 2 (2nd set).
After the match ball was transformed after an hour and a half, Medvedev sent greetings to the Champions League winner FC Bayern:
Medvedev now meets Aljaz Bedene in the round of 16, who surprisingly defeated Taylor Fritz in two sets. In the qualifying final, Bedene had won against Dennis Novak.
