Daria Kasatkina has seen better days on the tennis court. At the end of 2018, she was one of the shooting stars up to 10th place in the WTA ranking, thanks to a final in Indian Wells, quarter-finals in Roland Garros and Wimbledon and a tournament victory in Moscow.

2019 however? To forget. The Russian fell down to 70th place, currently she is listed in 74th place, and things were just going again in Rome - Kasatkina survived the qualification and celebrated two main field victories - when she twisted in the match against Victoria Azarenka. And that despite the fact that she had stood up to the "woman of the hour" to date and made it into the tie-break of set one. But Kasatkina slipped on the line and at least found some defiance with Azarenka, who showed herself to be a sportswoman with a heart.

Kasatkina had to quit the match, but her injury doesn't seem to be as bad as feared. She thanked her for the help via Instagram and tried to take it with humor. Everything happens for a reason, and someone told her that it would only make her stronger. Azarenka also got her respect - for the match and the help afterwards. That's what sport is about.

And the 23-year-old was also combative. "I'm doing my best to be ready for Roland Garros," she wrote.

The Grand Slam tournament in Paris starts with the main field games in exactly one week - on September 27th.
