Daria Medvedeva has had an exhausting year of travel behind her, and Daniil Medvedev's wife has basically accompanied the current US Open winner wherever he has just served. Medvedeva almost embarked on this path herself; at a young age she was definitely one of the hopeful young talents in Russia. But as it is, Daria stoically plays Daniil's matches at the side of coach Gil Cervara, who doesn't live out his emotions on the sidelines like Jürgen Klopp.

The Medvedev family can look back on an excellent year, in addition to the coronation in New York, Daniil also lost the Masters 1000 title in Toronto, as well as the tournament victories in Marseille and Mallorca. The latter is proof that the number two in the world can also offer very acceptable tennis on grass.

Don't be afraid of moon balls

In the Russian edition of the “Tatler” magazine, the Medvedev couple not only made themselves available for a few interesting pictures, but also told a few stories from the good old days of youth. For example from a tournament in Antalya in which the two then twelve-year-olds took part. Daria had just sat at dinner, but not undisturbed.

"Suddenly we hear someone yelp," said Medevedeva in the Tatler. “My mother asks me what's going on. Veronika Kudermetova's father starts to laugh and says: This is Medvedev. Don't you know him? So we went over and watched the match. Three and a half hours, moon balls, 50-stroke rallies. Since childhood, Daniil has always fought to the end, he was ready to do anything on the pitch to win - no matter how ugly his game looked. Nothing has changed in this regard. "

Medvedev wants to win the Davis Cup

In fact, Daniil Medvedev always seems to have the next big goal in mind. While Alexander Zverev is skipping the Davis Cup and has long been on vacation, Medvedev will probably play for the title together with Andrey Rublev with the Russian team. When asked about a late cancellation by the two Canadians Denis Shapovalov and Félix Auger-Aliassime, Medvedev said in Turin that he would not play at the Davis Cup just because of an injury. Fortunately, this did not occur for the Russians.

The conditions for the second Russian team success after the ATP Cup in early 2021 are not unfavorable - even though Medvedev and Co. were drawn into Group A with Spain. Andrey Rublev should be the best number two of the entire tournament by a wide margin (even if it could be very exciting against Carlos Alcaraz). And defeating Daniil Medvedev indoors has proven extremely difficult in the recent past.
