Dominic Thiem has changed the tournament schedule for the coming weeks after his successful run at the Australian Open 2020. Thiem will therefore only return to the ATP tour at the Rio Open, a 500 clay court tournament from February 17th to 23rd. Thereafter, Thiem stays in America and prepares for the first two Masters of the year in Indian Wells (March 9-22) and in Miami (March 23-April 5). In Indian Wells he won the biggest title of his career to date.

The Davis Cup against Uruguay in Graz is definitely not an issue for Thiem. "I will do it similarly to last year because it worked well." said Thiem about his planning. After swinging in North America, Thiem tends to include Monte Carlo in his tournament schedule. "The break after the Australian Open makes it more likely that I will play there again."

Thiem originally planned to travel directly to South America after the Grand Slam in Melbourne. Now he is taking a short break from competition, next Thursday, February 13th, he wants to travel to Rio.

"Now I know better what I need to play well. It takes some time to find out what is right," said Thiem, insight into his tournament planning. "It worked well in Australia now."
