After his disappointing appearances in the Middle East, Dominic Thiem initially took a break. For two weeks, the Lichtenwörther put his tennis racket in the corner, instead of strenuous training sessions, the 27-year-old was looking for relaxing leisure activities.

Due to this break, Thiem had also canceled his appearance for the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Monte Carlo, which began next week. "After Doha and Dubai I had to take a break. I'm not 100 percent ready yet. I'm sorry, I would have liked to play Monte Carlo, but unfortunately it doesn't work out," said the fourth.

Thiem does not expect miracles

Thiem's return to the tour will not take place in the principality, but in Belgrade, Serbia. For this reason, the reigning US Open winner has resumed training in Traiskirchen, Lower Austria, in the past few days. "Everything was very good, in the next few days I will give a lot of gas. But it will certainly take a few weeks before I'm in top form," Thiem wrote on his website .

On Sunday, coach Nicolas Massu will join Team Thiem to prepare his protégé for the ATP 250 tournament in Belgrade, which starts on April 19th. The 27-year-old is also working on his fitness with Mike Reinprecht. The world number four does not expect any miracles: "I want to play decent tennis again until Madrid!" The ATP Masters 1000 event in the Spanish capital will take place from May 2nd to 9th.
