Should the Davis Cup final round actually take place in Abu Dhabi next year - and at the moment all the signs are pointing to it, Dominic Thiem and all other participants in the Mubadala World Tennis Championship could get a small start bonus there in two weeks . For the Austrian number one, of course, it's about something completely different: Thiem wants to play a match under competitive conditions for the first time after a break of 177 days. Without world ranking points, but with the necessary seriousness to find out whether the physical condition is enough to start at the ATP Cup and then at the Australian Open.

Thiem sustained an injury to his wrist at the ATP Tour 250 tournament on Mallorca in June this year, and an earlier return to the tennis circuit, for example to defend the title at the US Open, failed due to several factors. Now the 28-year-old seems to have gotten himself back into shape to compete with the best in the world. On December 16 this will be Andy Murray - ServusTV will broadcast this match like all other Dominic Thiem games and the final live on TV, all other games will be streamed on servustv.com.

Thiem almost already on the way, Rublev on a short vacation

In addition to Thiem and Murray, Rafael Nadal, Denis Shapovalov, Casper Ruud and Andrey Rublev have also entered the start list. On the first day, US Open winner Emma Raducanu and Tokyo gold medalist Belinda Bencic will meet. For Rublev this means: extremely short vacation - the Russian is still busy at the Davis Cup final tournament in Madrid these days.

Dominic Thiem, on the other hand, comes to Abu Dhabi well rested. And earlier than all the other participants, as the Kronen Zeitung knows. After a few productive days of training in Traiskirchen, he will head to the emirate on Sunday, Thiem said. The environment is not entirely new to him: in 2017 he already served at the Mubadala World Tennis Championships. Coach Nicolas Massu, fitness trainer Jez Green and physiotherapist Carlos Costa will be there.
