Dr. Michael Reinprecht and physio Alex Stober had his son in deficiency, Wolfgang Thiem told tennisnet.com about the recent days in tennis life of the Austrian number one. The Thiems have spent the past two weekends near Nice at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown in the academy of Patrick Mouratoglou, quite successfully: Dominic did not burn anything after the opening defeat against Richard Gasquet, with Stefanos Tsitsipas , David Gofffin and Matteo Berrettini beaten three top executives.

Mouratoglou's offer to compete this Saturday and Sunday would have existed, said Wolfgang Thiem ("a casual event"). This would have affected the preparation for Kitzbühel too much. Dominic will pick up the racket again in the weekend in Kitzbühel, the Reinprecht-Stober-Lack week has not provided for tennis.

Thiem at the start against Ruud

The field of participants for "Thiem's 7" is impressive, Wolfgang Thiem was extremely active in getting it done. The last two additions add value to the event: Roberto Bautista Agut is the Wimbledon semi-finalist of 2019, who also won the Davis Cup with the Spanish team towards the end of the year.

And the Thiems also had an ulterior motive with Casper Ruud. "We wanted one of the strong boys who also has a relationship with Kitzbühel," said Wolfgang Thiem. In fact, Ruud reached the semi-finals in the Alpine metropolis in summer 2019. There, however, was the end point of Albert Ramos-Vinola's. Dominic Thiem would have waited in the final. What has been missed can now be made up for. Because on Tuesday there will be a meeting with the host.

500 spectators will be allowed per session, the hygiene concept will be consistently followed. Two other starters in Kitzbühel still have work to do: Dennis Novak at the Austrian State Championships in Oberpullendorf. And Matteo Berrettini, who will compete with Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexei Popyrin at the Ultimate Tennis Showdon before leaving for the Tyrolean lowlands.
