For the first time, Dominic Thiem was preparing for a new season in Miami. Previously, the Lichtenwörther had spent his off-season on Tenerife for years, but due to various illnesses at the beginning of the year, the fourth in the world rankings changed his plan this year - and apparently with success.

"Dominic had a world-class preparation under top conditions," says sports scientist Mike Reinprecht, who takes care of the Austrian's fitness together with Duglas Cordero . According to Reinprecht, the values of the 26-year-old had "improved significantly" compared to the beginning of the camp.

In contrast to Tenerife, the primary focus in Miami was on fitness; tennis in itself had only come second in Florida. In Australia, where Thiem has been staying for a few days, the Austrian is concentrating more on tennis training on time before the start of the new season.

Together with Dennis Novak and Sebastian Ofner, Thiem is preparing in Gold Coast near Brisbane for the ATP Cup taking place on January 3rd. Under the aegis of Thomas Muster , Austria meets Croatia, Argentina and Poland in Sydney.

Shortly afterwards, the first Grand Slam tournament of the year awaits from January 20th. Thiem has never made it past the round of 16 at the Australian Open, but that should change in 2020. The prerequisites for this are at least as good as never before.
