Dominic Thiem has not been able to compete in a tournament since June 22, 2021 due to a long-term wrist injury. The comeback for the Austrian is scheduled to take place next week at the clay court tournament in Cordoba. However, there is now a big question mark behind the start of the 28-year-old: As several journalists unanimously reported on Twitter, Thiem is still struggling with wrist problems.

Accordingly, Thiem had to stop a training session after just five minutes in Santiago, Chile, where he is preparing for the South American clay court tour in the training center of his coach Nicolas Massu. It is not yet clear how serious the problems of the Lichtenwörther are. In any case, his start in Cordoba seems to be in doubt.

Thiem would have been seeded second behind Diego Schwartzman in his comeback tournament. After the event in Cordoba, the 2020 US Open winner originally wanted to play in Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro and Santiago as well.

Thiem skipped the Australian Open that are currently taking place due to a training backlog. At the time of the withdrawal, however, the 28-year-old emphasized that the wrist was now "in optimal condition" again.
