The two players had to wait a long time before they could finally start the final of bett1Aces, which was actually scheduled for 12 p.m .: Matteo Berrettini and Dominic Thiem entered the pitch at Steffi Graf Stadium shortly after 7 p.m., the break-in time was increased to eight minutes. This did not detract from the concentration of the two players: there was not a single breakball in the match until the tie break of the first set, even though Thiem gave a slight smash to the set ball in the twelfth game.

In the quick decision, the Austrian quickly led with a mini-break, no longer making a point after the break at 4-2.

Thiem uses his third match ball

Round two was initially dominated by Berrettini in the increasingly shallow light, but the semi-finalist of last year's US Open was unable to take advantage of two break chances in the second game. In fact it was Thiem who got his opponent's serve to 4: 3. Thiem did not burn anything anymore, served sovereign.

A champions tie-break had to make the decision. Thiem managed the first mini break again - with a brilliant backhand pass ball for 3-1. The next mini break followed to 6: 3. Thiem finally found three match balls and used the third with a serve-and-volley variant. And sent Berrettini on vacation with a defeat. The Italian will be represented by Karen Khachanov at the upcoming hard court matches in Berlin.

Here is the match to read in the live ticker.
