Rohan Bopanna wins the doubles title in Indian Wells. That doesn't sound particularly spectacular at first. But behind this message is a piece of tennis history.

In recent years we have heard and read about tennis professionals who are getting older and older and how the age of average tennis professionals is being pushed back. In Indian Wells there was now another proof for this thesis. A good two weeks ago, on March 4th, Indian Rohan Bopanna celebrated his 43rd birthday. But there is still no reason for him to submit his tennis pension. On the contrary. Together with the Australian Matthiew Ebden, Bopanna won the title at the Masters in Indian Wells.

In the final, the duo defeated the top seeded Dutch-British duo Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski 6-3, 2-6 and 10-8. For Bopanna, who is successful in doubles, this is synonymous with his 22nd doubles title, and that is a very special one: This makes him the oldest ATP Masters winner of all time.

"It's really something special. It's called tennis paradise for a reason," said the record winner after the match, adding: "I've come here over the years and I've seen all these guys win for so many years. I'm really Happy that Matt and I did it and were able to get this title here."
