In the summer of this year, Oliver Marach briefly considered returning to the ATP tour. For how long, the now 42-year-old left open in an interview with tennisnet. Then things turned out differently, Marach had other plans and has been seen more and more often on a padel court for months. Will this lead to a second career? we will see.

In any case, the Styrian will no longer be seen in professional tennis. Marach is now making this official with a post on Instagram. In it he thanked the fans, his mentors, coaches, family and of course his numerous partners with whom Marach has played over the years. When there were Jürgen Melzer, Lukasz Kubot, Alex Peya, Philipp Oswald or Aisan al Qureshi, among others.

And of course Mate Pavic. With the Croatian, Marach won the title at the Australian Open in early 2018 - and then ended this tennis year as number one in the world. In addition to the successes on the tour, the Davis Cup was always a source of inspiration and joy for Oliver Marach. The last major emotional highlight was the meeting against Australia in autumn 2018 in Graz - even if the result for Marach from Graz, who has lived in Panama for years, was not as desired.

Marach also played his last professional match in the Austrian national jersey: at the end of 2021 in Innsbruck at the Davis Cup against Germany, together with Philipp Oswald against Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz - and in front of empty ranks.

In the final balance there are 23 titles in doubles, the first was in 2007 with Michal Mertinak in Bucharest, the last in 2019 with Jürgen Melzer in Hamburg. A really great career, which has now officially come to an end.
