Here is the live ticker to read.
In the end, Daniel Altmaier's body was probably a bit exhausted from the many matches of the past week. In any case, the German could not build on his performances from the previous rounds in Madrid and clearly lost in the quarter-finals 3:6, 3:6 against Borna Coric.
Altmaier had to fight for his service in his first service game, but was able to save it there. But in the second service game he had to accept the break after a double fault. When the ball was in play, he engaged in long baseline duels with Coric, with each player trying to dictate the pace. Usually with the better end for the Croatian. Coric quickly pulled away in the first set to make it 4:1. Although the German stabilized during his service, there was simply nothing to be gained when his opponent served. With 6:3 the first set went to Borna Coric.
The same picture at the beginning of the second set: Coric with a little more pressure and a little less mistakes, which then made a big difference overall. Altmaier had to accept another break in the first service game – to zero. After that, both servers were stable again and were able to get through their service games. Coric, in particular, scored almost every point when fielding the first serve. Altmaier tried to push himself after one or the other nice point, but he didn't really find emotional access to the match. Symptomatic Coric's last break, which he was able to realize again to zero. Thanks to a backhand error by Altmaier, the Croatian advanced to the semi-finals - and Altmaier had to accept an unsatisfactory end to an outstanding tournament.
