Gael Monfils started the year 2022 with a tournament victory. The French defeated Karen Khachanov 6: 4 and 6: 4 in the final of the ATP Tour 250 event in Adelaide.

The hard work that Gael Monfils did in preparation for the 2022 season with coach Günter Bresnik in Tenerife pays off early on. Monfils lived up to its favorite position at the ATP Tour 250 tournament in Adelaide, beating Karen Khachanov 6: 4 and 6: 4 in the final. The Russian entered the event as number two. For Monfils it was the eleventh career title, the last he won in Rotterdam in 2020. Coach Bresnik is not in Australia, Monfils is looked after by Richard Ruckelshausen.
The final against Khachanov was even in both sets up to the tenth game, after which Monfils struck as a setback. After almost 80 minutes of play, the French veteran was also allowed to celebrate by his wife Elina Svitolina. Khachanov, on the other hand, has been waiting for a tournament victory since his triumph in Paris-Bercy in autumn 2018.
The double title in Adelaide went to an all-Indian pairing: Ramkumar Ramanathan and Rohan Bopanna won the final against Ivan Dodig and Marcello Melo 7: 6 (6) and 6: 1.
