US Open winner Emma Raducanu has to postpone the start of the season due to a corona infection. The 19-year-old British woman canceled her participation in the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi on Monday after testing positive for the coronavirus. Raducanu, who was supposed to compete against Olympic champion Belinda Bencic (Switzerland) in the exhibition tournament in Abu Dhabi on Thursday, is in isolation.

"I was really looking forward to playing in front of fans in Abu Dhabi, but after testing positive for COVID-19 I will unfortunately have to postpone it until the next opportunity. I am in isolation according to the rules and hopefully I can return soon play ", Raducanu was quoted as saying by the organizers.

Raducanu, who won a Grand Slam tournament as the first qualifier in New York in September, was preparing for her first full season on the WTA tour with her new coach Torben Beltz (previously coach of Angelique Kerber) before becoming infected.

It has not yet been decided who will replace the British woman in Abu Dhabi. But they are already looking for a top player and will deliver an update "in due course", according to the organizers.
