The men's cut-off this year is 98th, currently occupied by Egor Gerasimov. He has thus landed as the last "regular" player in the main draw. Incidentally, the 40-year-old Ivo Karlovic number 95 in the ranking. All players from place 99 must therefore hope in the qualification - or a cancellation before qualification start. /

Six players also use their protected ranking: Juan Martin del Potro, Mackenzie McDonald, Vasek Pospisil, Cedrik-Marcel Stebe, Yen-Hsun Lu and Alexandr Dolgopolov.

From a German perspective, alongside Alexander Zverev , Jan-Lennard Struff, Philipp Kohlschreiber, Dominic Koepfer are qualified thanks to their ranking - and the long-injured Stebe via the Protected Ranking. For Austria only Dominic Thiem is at the start; Dennis Novak as current number 109 must hope for many cancellations in advance ...

Petkovic qualified - but currently injured

For the ladies, the cut-off is ranked 100th in the current world rankings, and thus in Camila Giorgi. Local hero Samantha Stosur has also just made the direct qualification as number 99. Surprising: Victoria Azarenka, currently number 50, is not registered.

Five players take their Protected Ranking: Catherine "Cici" Bellis, Vera Zvonareva, Katie Boulter, Kateryna Bondarenko and Anna Karolina Schmiedlova. From the German point of view in the main field: Angelique Kerber , Julia Görges , Laura Siegemund, Andrea Petkovic and Tatjana Maria. Behind Petkovic's mission is still a question mark.

In addition, the Australian Association can award eight wildcards per draw. Six pieces are already gone - Hugo Gaston, Marcos Giron, Tatsumo Ito in the men's and Han Na-lae, Pauline Parmentier and CoCo Vandeweghe are called the lucky ones in the ladies.

The main draw of the Australian Open takes place from January 20th to February 2nd, 2020. Defending champions are Novak Djokovic in the men's and Naomi Osaka in the women's. Qualification starts on the 14th of January.
