While in the women's youngsters like Cori Gauff and Bianca Andreescu had caused quite a stir this season, dominated in the men again Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. The new generation was missing - with a few exceptions - every track.

One of these exceptions is Jannik Sinner . The only 18-year-old South Tyrolean lost in the last week in Antwerp only in the semi-final against Stan Wawrinka, was rewarded the top talent with a wildcard for the ATP-500 tournament in Vienna.

In the first round there was a meeting with Philipp Kohlschreiber, twice as old. Sinner offered a taste of his talents to those fans who remained in the stadium after Dominic Thiem's impressive performance against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and finished off his German counterparts 6-3 and 6-4.
