Fabio Fognini wants to get rid of his ankle problems

Roger Federer has, as it were, shown that he would have surgery on the knee immediately after the Australian Open. Swiss recovery is progressing according to plan, but Federer has not yet started training again. What for, says the Maestro a few days ago? After all, he still had no goal in mind.

It is similar to Fabio Fognini, even if the Italian had actually planned to take part in an exhibition fight series at Patrick Mouratoglou's academy. It is not yet clear whether Fognini, who celebrated his 33rd birthday a few days ago, will be able to do this. As the 2019 Monte Carlo Champion announced on social networks, he will initially undergo operations on both ankles.

Fognini in Australia in round four

"I've had problems with my left ankle for the past three and a half years, it's a thing I've gotten used to," said Fognini. "Then my right ankle has been performing for the past two years. I was hoping the various problems would go away during our two-month break, but after I started training again, they came back." He would have exchanged ideas with his team for a long time, Fognini continued, and then opted for arthoscopy on both ankles.

The beginning of the year was not bad for Fognini at the Australian Open - even though he was eliminated in the fourth round against Tennys Sandgren. Before that, however, the man from Bergamo won against Reilly Opelka and Jordan Thompson in the tiebreak of the fifth set.
