"The children need a PCR test to enter Austria. We can now solve this by sending me the following data and our doctor issuing the results; the children save themselves the test." These words started something in Hungarian tennis - and now obviously triggered a veritable scandal. The association's team doctor is said to have issued fake COVID tests.

The results were issued under the seal of Semmelweis University, and the employment relationship with the doctor has now ended. The doctor was also deprived of his license to work with the Hungarian Tennis Association. The association has now announced full clarification: "The organization will fully cooperate with the authorities investigating the matter and will inform the public with great transparency about the results of this investigation," it said in a statement.

Davis Cup team also affected

Accordingly, one considers both disciplinary and criminal consequences for all people involved - primarily, of course, the doctor. The tests were always used when association players needed negative test certificates for trips abroad. And no distinction was made between youth players on the one hand and the Davis Cup team on the other.

The Davis Cup players of Hungary also competed in the Davis Cup Finals in Turin at the end of 2021, but failed in the group with Croatia and Australia without a win. The Hungarian team is currently 23rd in the Davis Cup Nations Rankings.
