It was only a little over a month ago that Laura Robson raised high hopes - for herself and her fans: At the beginning of December it was when the Briton was allowed to play tennis again after a year , "I didn't expect to do it again to make it to the place after the last operation, "she wrote happily under a training video on Instagram.

Now there was another setback for the 26-year-old: Robson had to go under the knife again, her third hip operation meanwhile. "I was desperate to continue training, but I was in such pain that surgery was inevitable," she wrote. According to her doctors, the priority is now long-term improvement of the hip. "Where that leaves me with my tennis, I don't know. It depends on how things heal in the coming months. But more than anything I wish to have a happy and pain-free life." /

The whole process is "incredibly draining," said Robson, "I'm so grateful to have my physios, family and friends to get me through this."

Laura Robson: Bad luck with injuries since 2014

Robson had just celebrated her 27th birthday on January 21st, "this year I got crutches," joked in the Instagram post.

Robson has been ravaged by injuries for years. In 2013 she was already number 27 in the world, at just 19 years of age. Then her body abandoned her - first the left wrist, now the hip.

In 2008, when he was only 14, Robson won the Wimbledon junior women's tournament. And reached the second round at the US Open in 2012, after victories over Kim Clijsters and Li Na. At the Olympic Games in London Andy Murray won the silver medal in mixed. At the end of 2013, her injury odyssey began. She played her last match in 2019.
