Kenin won against the two-time Wimbledon winner 6: 4, 7: 5 and is in her first final at Roland Garros.

The 21-year-old convinced again with a clever, varied game that had already brought her to victory at the Australian Open at the beginning of the year. In the first round, Kenin got two quick breaks to make it 4: 1, Kvitova countered again, but the American finally made the first set clear.

Set two was closer: Kvitova did not use a break chance to 3: 1 and got the break, four chances for a direct rebreak she left. At 3: 5 and 15:30 she was only two points from losing the match, but then surprisingly equalized again - only to then give up her serve again. Kenin finally served on the second try.

Bitter for Kvitova: She played a total of 12 break chances and only used 2 - Kenin was much more effective with a yield of 4 of her 5 opportunities. And with a winner / unforced errors balance of 23:20, it was slightly ahead of Kvitova with 28:31.

Swiatek vs Kenin - absolute surprise final in Paris

In the final, Kenin will meet Iga Swiatek, who won the first semi-final against Nadia Podoroska.

The surprise final in Paris is perfect, because neither player was expected. Swiatek as world number 59. had never made it past the round of 16 in a major tournament. And Kenin? Had lost in her only appearance on sand in the run-up to the French Open in Rome - with 0: 6, 0: 6 against Victoria Azarenka .
