In the past few weeks we haven't seen much of Philipp Kohlschreiber on the tennis courts of the ATP Tour - but in Roland Garros the native of Augsburg is just growing beyond himself. After Kohlschreiber won the veteran duel against Fernando Verdasco in four sets, he now beat Aslan Karatsev, one of the climbers of the year. Kohlschreiber won against the Russian, who had reached the semi-finals at the Australian Open, 6: 3, 7: 6 (4), 4: 6 and 6: 1.

In the next round, Kohlschreiber will meet Diego Schwartzman. The chances are not bad for the native of Augsburg, because Schwartzman has not made any great achievements this year after his outstanding 2020 season. With the exception of the home win at the ATP Tour 250 tournament in Buenos Aires.

Against Karatsev, Kohlschreiber implemented his match plan perfectly: He varied a lot, high spin balls and deep slices alternated. Karatsev could not do his usual power tennis and was repeatedly forced to make mistakes by Kohlschreiber. Philipp Kohlschreiber was able to prevent the match from turning in another direction after the Russian won the set with an early break in the fourth round.
