As soon as the Eiffel Tower towers over the rooftops and Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies step onto the red sand in the shadow of Court Philippe Chatrier, the German top doubles get a special feeling. Paris is a "magical place" for the unequal duo from Coburg and Cologne.

After a forced break of a year - Mies was unable to compete in 2021 due to the aftermath of a major knee operation - they want to continue their brilliant title wins from two and three years ago at the French Open in the competition that starts on Tuesday. Everything has to fit for that.

"We'll definitely use the same changing room again, the same locker, we've done it twice now," said Mies: "And Kevin the same shower when you come in, the second right. Sometimes there's a bit of superstition."

Krawietz and Mies with a difficult start

Krawietz and Mies, whose start against the British-Finnish combination Lloyd Glasspool/Harri Heliovaara did not rise on the first day of the game, brought the doubles competitions a hitherto unknown level of attention in Germany with their premiere success in 2019. In the history of professional tennis since 1968, no duo of two German players had previously won the title in a Grand Slam tournament. The celebration was correspondingly intense, even after the repeat act a year later, things went well.

But at the beginning of 2021, Mies suffered a severe setback, his knee could no longer withstand the strain. Krawietz played successfully with the Romanian Horia Tecau, they only started together again at the beginning of this year.
