Jenson Broosky was the man who was largely responsible for ensuring that qualifying for this year's French Open should take a few minutes longer. The American, who, among others, had dealt with Cedrik-Marcel Stebe in a somewhat humorless way through the qualification, braced himself bravely against the defeat against local hero Evan Furness, fended off three match points and finally prevailed in three contested sets. And now - after the qualifiers have been placed in the main draw - meets the man of the hour in men's tennis, the whiz kid Aslan Karatsev.

Unlike Stebe, Oskar Otte made it through the qualification successfully. He won a duel with the number one in the country, meets Alexander Zverev at the start - on Sunday. He recently made a little secret of calculating a lot for the Grand Slam on the Bois de Bolougne, and team Zverev even flirted with winning the title.

Federer meets Istomin

Another opponent at the beginning, who was eagerly awaited, was that of Roger Federers, whose appearances in Roland Garros are followed with great interest, as befits his standing. After the dress rehearsal for the major in his home country, specifically in Geneva, the maestro meets the veteran Denis Istomin. No less than 73 years of life experience will face each other in this first round duel.

The other two Germans who made it through the qualification successfully are Yannik Hanfmann and Maximilian Marterer. The former meets the Swiss Henri Laaksonen at the beginning, Marterer faces the Serbian Filip Krajinovi in the first round of the French Open. Another interesting qualifier: 17-year-old Carlos Alcaraz. The young Spaniard meets his compatriot Bernabe Zapata Miralles at the start.
