Daniel Masur had no place against Geoffrey Blancaneaux in the final qualifying round. The German was only granted four games in his duel with the French, so the 27-year-old and Cedrik-Marcel Stebe just failed to qualify for the second major event of the year.

Nastasja Schunk, on the other hand, had her chances in her duel with Hailey Baptiste from the USA and had to accept a late break to make it 5:7 in the first set. The second round was also quite open for the German, and the 20-year-old was even able to win it with a strong finish. In the third and decisive set, the German had to give up after a hard-fought initial phase - Baptiste finally won 7:5, 4:6 and 6:2.

The main draw of the French Open starts on Sunday, with the final on June 5th. From a German point of view, Alexander Zverev has the best chances in the men's race, while Angelique Kerber is playing for her first Grand Slam title in the Bois de Boulogne for women.
