Djokovic vs. Nadal: In 2022 this meeting in Paris is already possible in the quarterfinals

Rafael Nadal knows how to deal with his pain - and has done so for many years. And even if the Spanish grandmaster has seldom been seen scampering across the court as he did on Thursday in his round of 16 in Rome against Denis Shapovalov, it cannot be ruled out that Nadal will be reasonably fit again at the French Open, which begins on May 22nd will start.

Then, however, set as number five. Because with his early departure, Nadal lost some of the 1,000 points from the previous year, Stefanos Tsitsipas passed him in the live rankings. Which doesn't change the fact that these two could meet in the quarterfinals.

Quarterfinals Nadal against Djokovic possible

On the other hand, this option is new due to Nadal's relapse for Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev. Provided that the Russian is suitable for a performance in Roland Garros after the comeback in Geneva. Incidentally, Medvedev has to decide early on, because the 128 grid for Paris will be drawn on Thursday. As is well known, Djokovic and Nadal met in the semi-finals in 2021. And delivered perhaps the best quality game of the whole year on the ATP tour.

The alternatives for the quarter-finals are not exactly attractive for the top three in the world either: Carlos Alcaraz, Casper Ruud or Andrey Rublev could threaten them.
