The Williams / Thiem scandal - it was also the big topic of conversation in Paris on Sunday. Roger Federer was also asked about it after his victory over Leonardo Mayer. "Usually the player who is still in the tournament has priority, that's how I see it," said the Swiss. "I don't know what exactly happened. I understand Dominic's frustration. He probably thought: 'How in the world can this be?'"
But Federer didn't take everything so seriously. "I think it was an unfortunate situation," he continued, adding after an artist break: "... which I thought was funny. We were just joking about in the locker room," said Federer, laughing heartily. But at the moment, according to Federer, he understood Thiem's lack of understanding.
Robin Haase to Thiem: "Sorry I have to disturb ..."
Robin Haase went one step further. At a media event in Thiem on Sunday, Haase broke in between and said: "Sorry to have to interfere. But I need the chair for the interview." But Thiem stayed cool. "I hope that's on camera now," he said.
In retrospect, I found something positive about the story anyway. "That's why I even came to the Champions League final in time."
